Akène – a crêperie with a bric-a-brac atmosphere by the port of Redon – where chestnuts are among the specialities.
Imagine a port, boats, a narrow street, cobblestones and ‘galettes’ and you’ve got the Akène, where choice and quality are the main philosophy. “We've been here for 30 years", says head chef Antoine Deureuder, a traditional restaurant chef before coming to the crêperie. His experience shines through in the dishes with cured sausage, roast chestnuts and onion preserve ‘galettes’ (buckwheat pancakes) or the ‘Teillouse’, a sweet crêpe with chocolate, chestnut cream, nuts and Chantilly cream. We’re in Redon, land of chestnuts and dragons - not fire-breathing dragons, but the ‘Dragon du Roi’ regiment, in whose former barracks the crêperie is found. The decor has plenty of character with a trompe l’oeil that makes you feel as though you’re eating among Redon people from bygone times and bric-a-brac objects, such as a beautiful old clock and a Singer sewing machine.
