From its home port of Concarneau, the boating company Croisières Bleues runs guided boat trips around the walled town and out to the Glénan Isles, the most exotic of Brittany's archipelagos.
Each boat follows its own route. Aboard the brightly-coloured Popeye, you can go on a commentated cruise around the walled town and the fishing port, and out as far as Porzou beach. It's an alternative way of learning about this Breton port's life and history - and it's too much fun to miss. Still aboard Popeye, another option is to cross the bay to Beg Meil ??and then explore its glittering coves and rich birdlife. Aboard the Azénor, you can head for the Glénan Isles for a full-day's excursion, on a catamaran furnished with every comfort. After a commentated crossing that lasts for 70 minutes, you go ashore on Saint Nicolas island. You have three hours for a picnic beside the turquoise waters of the lagoon, a complete tour of the rocky island and a quick dip in the water, before coming back to port with the strange feeling that you've just been to the Caribbean...
