Castle visit

The Hunaudaye castle is an ideal destination to discover the Middle Ages with your family. Booklets, workshops for children, or even night tours allow you to discover the place as you wish. Built around 1220 by Olivier Tournemine, the fortified castle of Hunaudaye protected the eastern border of Penthièvre (country of Lamballe), in conflict with Poudouvre (region of Dinan). Destroyed in 1341, during the War of the Succession of Brittany, it was rebuilt in the 15th century, with some technical innovations (presence of gunboats). Today, the ruins of the fortified castle of Hunaudaye are discovered at the bend of a path. Are still visible, the drawbridge, the five towers and their defensive systems, the curtain walls as well as the interior courtyard and various living spaces such as kitchens, cellars, the common oven and the stately hall.
A temporary exhibition is also available throughout the season to shed light on a particular theme.
In July and August, guided tours are offered to the public at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Visiting the castle
Hunaudaye castle was built in around 1220 by Olivier Tournemine. His descendants continued to expand their possessions, making La Hunaudaye a very powerful seigneury. The construction of the castle spanned several centuries. In the 15th century, the latest military innovations were installed. The castle was set ablaze during the French Revolution. Thenceforth, it was used as a quarry until it was listed in 1922.
The castle now belongs to the Department of Côtes d'Armor.
