Experience the 'chateau life' on the outskirts of Rennes

A stone’s throw from Brittany’s capital, you have an appointment with history in an amazing setting. Romantic breaks and unique gourmet experiences give you a taste of life at the château.

Sculptures and a unique dining experience at the Château des Pères

At the heart of a 31-hectare contemporary sculpture park, the Château des Pères is the new must-see attraction close to Brittany’s capital. The Table des Pères gastronomic restaurant, run by Jérôme Jouadé, former finalist in the TV show ‘Le Meilleur Menu de la France’, is an ode to natural, local cuisine. The chef gets his inspiration from seasonal fruits and vegetables, with ingredients gathered in the château’s grounds (wild herbs, mushrooms, fir tips etc.) giving his cuisine a special twist. Tucked away inside this former feudal manor house, the Table des Pères is perfectly complemented by its décor and surroundings. To spice up the magic of the setting on summer evenings, the chef offers a unique gourmet experience: a gastronomic meal six metres high in the trees!

A romantic break at the Château des Tesnières

Ten minutes south of Vitré, treat yourself to the luxury of a night at the château. This magnificent neo-Gothic château has five suites and guest rooms offering the ultimate in refinement, making this a choice destination for couples looking for a romantic break far from the bustle of the city. Four-poster beds, teardrop chandeliers, period furniture and modern comforts come together in this château, which has been renovated and tastefully decorated by your Dutch hosts, John and Siebren, who fell in love with the building. In the large Louis XVI drawing room, the library and the six-hectare grounds surrounding the Château, you’re welcome to stroll around like lords.

Go green in the Ecolodges at the Château du Bois Guy

Around half an hour from the Mont-Saint-Michel, this 16th-century Renaissance château has been completely restored back to its former glory, thanks to its new owners’ modern, eco-friendly approach. This 24-room, four-star hotel has been very cleverly designed to showcase its ancient stonework. The restaurant’s cuisine treats you to dishes with a local flavour, while its golf course is 100% eco-friendly. In the spring of 2017, five Ecolodges were built on the estate from locally-sourced wood, using the know-how of the château’s team. With views of the château or the lake, these luxury suites, surrounded by grounds of 78 hectares, are the perfect place to get away from it all, switch off and relax.

The Château du Rocher Portail, France's answer to Downton Abbey

When spring arrives, come and discover a new jewel in Brittany’s heritage. After a top-to-bottom renovation, one of the most beautiful châteaux in Brittany opened its doors to the public in the summer of 2017, just a stone’s throw from Fougères and the Mont-Saint-Michel. Take a tour of the 12 rooms furnished in period style, the stables, chapel and Renaissance gallery: it’s a journey back in time that will give you an insight into how nobles and servants lived in the 19th century. Enjoy the tranquillity of the tea room created in the château kitchens, with its ‘oh so British’ ambiance. Then stroll out into the vast grounds, which cover an area of almost 60 hectares, and the gardens that are listed as an Historic Monument.
