A lovely ecclesiastical landscape of rose gardens, fig trees, cider apple orchards and salt marshes in a sheltered harbour.
Explore this maritime Abbey founded by the Prémonté order in 1202 in Paimpol’s cove. Built on high ground, it dominates the landscape, with breathtaking views of the sea and the Isle of Saint Riom! Six centuries of monastic history echo through the building, which later became a private residence. Stroll through the grounds and enjoy the views over marshland, moors, reed beds and pasture, plus the orchard collections, walled garden and cloisters. Access to all this has been made possible by way of their purchase in 1992 by coastal conservation organisation the ‘Conservatoire du littoral’. Since the association acquired the site, a number of archaeological excavations have taken place here and the Beauport site is now a non-transferable property that welcomes 150,000 visitors a year. -
