You'll find the Tour Trompette crêperie in the port of Vannes, inside the tower of the same name, ready to take you on a gastronomic journey through time. Are you ready for this?"Customers come in through the door and stand there dumbstruck, with their eyes popping! There's nowhere quite like this, it's a one-off…a real trip back in time." A trip back to the 14th century, which is when the famous Tour Trompette was built, as an integral part of Vannes' ramparts. There are three rooms, all full of character, and a peaceful little terrace that catches the sun: and then of course there are the delicious crêpes and galettes (savoury buckwheat pancakes) that are served here. Take some genuine Brittany buckwheat, some eggs from the Ferme du Patis farm, cider from the Nicol cider farm, andouille (tripe sausage) made in Guéménée, home made caramel...add the touch of an expert hand, and you get a whole range of wonderful pancakes: Océane, Bigoudène (named after this part of Brittany) with andouille, garlic and parsley butter, Rougail with artisan sausage from Plumelec, and so on. A crêpe made from wheat flour with caramelised apples is a nice way to finish off your typically Breton meal. And all of a sudden it's time to come back to the present day - what a shame!
