Exposition Mari Eugénie

Exposition Mari Eugénie

A century of clothing tradition
Museum, Folk art and traditions, Interpretation centre in Carhaix-Plouguer

  • In the centre of Carhaix, the Mari Eugénie exhibition area presents a rich collection of Breton headdresses and costumes, emblematic of the Poher region.

  • As much as language, dance or music, clothing is a strong marker of Brittany’s cultural heritage. Historically, each Breton region had its own traditional costume. The exhibition focuses only on the Poher region; a vast area situated between the Monts d’Arrée hills and the Black Mountains. Dedicated to the memory of her great-aunt, who was a collector, the exhibition area (300 m2) designed by Mari-Anna Sohier presents an incredible palette of post-1850s period headdresses and costumes....

During your visit, you will get acquainted with various methods of garment making, the quality of embroideries and the evolution of garment cutting as well as discover the habits and customs of a bygone era. All the pieces worn by the mannequins are authentic. Every year, Mari-Anna renews the set design by drawing on her personal collection. A gentle and intimate journey through the time and the history of a region to be discovered independently or on a guided tour by prior appointment.
