Forteresse de Largoët

A stopover in the past
Historic site and monument, Castle in Elven
  • For lovers of our medieval past, there is a jewel just 10 minutes from Vannes, in the middle of a forest close to the little village of Elven - the Forteresse de Largoët.

  • As soon as you enter the castle grounds you will be impressed by the sense of peace along the lane leading up to the fortress. On the edge of the wood, suddenly you are confronted by two towers on the edge of a small lake. One is round, in 15th century military style, and the other an octagonal keep dating from the 14th century. The 45-metre-high keep, in particular, is impressive thanks to its unusual shape and the enormous size of the stones used to build the walls. Everything is original:...
As soon as you enter the castle grounds you will be impressed by the sense of peace along the lane leading up to the fortress. Everything is original: "You can still see the slate bolsters between the stones, which is extremely rare," says Martial Jordan, the proud owner of this exceptionally well-preserved site - and that applies to the magnificent remains of the man-made edifice and to its delightful natural surroundings.
