  • Right-handers who draw the ball and left-handers who fade it will love Golf de Nantes. From the very opening hole the message is the same as it is to foreign motorists driving off the ferry in England, ‘keep left.’

The architect of the course, which is ten miles south-east of Nantes, is the very highly regarded Frank Pennink, who was an accomplished amateur golfer, journalist and designer. One must assume, therefore, that he knew perfectly well what he was doing when he laid out no fewer than nine dog-legs going left and then, probably with a wry smile, finished with a dog-leg going right. With plenty of elevation and tightish tree-lined fairways, this undulating course is the oldest in the region and a real gem that, when your round is over, you will almost certainly want to play again.
