  • Explore the fascinating heritage of the Crozon peninsula through its 150 to 200 military fortifications dating from the prehistoric era to the present day.

The ‘Route des fortifications’ (Fortifications Route) takes you from the ‘Pointe de Lanvéoc’ to the ‘Pointe des Espagnols’ via Camaret. It’s a great way to explore the peninsula’s defensive structures and learn more about the area’s history. Some of the structures date back to the prehistoric era though most were built during the 17th century as part of Vauban’s military fortification building initiative. Some of the sites feature information panels telling visitors about the development of the fortifications and their role in defending Brest harbour. Tourist offices stock free brochures that give a concise explanation of the peninsula’s defensive role through the centuries as well as a map.
