The Caballon de M. Plocq is sited in Saint-Viaud, on the south bank of the Loire estuary, against the magical background of a lake. The boat is an ingenious cocoon of wood and canvas, with the addition of a terrace on piles. The terrace forms a link between the outside and inside. It offers the chance of a unique sensory experience for two, accompanied by virtual reality. It was designed as part of the Nights of Imagination project by students at the Nantes École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture and was inspired by Jules Verne and Émile Plocq, a 19th century naturalist from Vendée. A cross between a ship and a balloon, this is an explorer’s vessel that allowed the 'bird charmer' to observe flora and fauna without being seen. Between the sky and the water, between reality and fiction, it’s your turn to step aboard for a timeless voyage in a spectacular natural setting that is out of this world.
