  • All you ever wanted to know about plankton from the Eclosarium on the Isle of Houat.

The Eclosarium was originally a hatchery opened to help re-instate lobsters in the region. Today it is a major European centre for research into marine biotechnologies, open to the public for educational visits. Come and discover the importance of plankton, known in France as 'the earth's lungs'. Were you aware that it plays an absolutely key role in the marine ecosystem and produces two thirds of the earth's oxygen? You will also be surprised by some of its other uses, in cosmetics for instance. In fact this is where the Daniel Jouvance label's research scientists carry out their work. After this visit, you will know all there is to know about the flora and fauna of the Isle of Houat.
