Mariano Otero, la grâce du trait

Mariano Otero, la grâce du trait

Exhibition, Cultural in Vannes
  • Born in Spain, he has built his life in France, in Rennes. This dual culture has given Mariano Otero the roots of an intensely personal body of work. The Musée de la Cohue takes a workshop approach to exploring all the facets of his work. Come and see for yourself!

Perhaps you've already been drawn to his bathers, with their round, sensual shapes. Dressed in plain or striped swimming costumes, always wearing a bathing cap, they made the painter famous and occupied 10 years of his life. Through them, we discover his perfect mastery of drawing, the velvety softness of a pastel treatment, his acute sense of observation, and a tender eye full of humour. He works in series, tirelessly drawing portraits, still lifes, nudes, bulls... and couples entwined in spirited tango passes. On canvases, of course, but also on the backs of coasters or the envelopes of letters sent to his friends and family. His palette plays with whites, browns, greys and blues, sometimes illuminated by a deep or bright red. A committed artist, he puts his talent at the service of the causes that touch him: Spain, democracy, cultural diversity... Come and meet the man and the creator, and you'll be sure to be won over!
