  • In the middle of Quimper, the Breton museum pays homage to local Breton craftsmanship: costumes, earthenware, gold and silver smithing, furniture, etc.

A museum in the former bishops' palace in the centre of Quimper provides a wide-ranging view of the history of decorative arts in Finistère: costumes, furniture, gold- and silver- smithing, stained-glass, earthenware and ceramics, etc. Here you will find a sumptuous collection of examples of Breton art and traditions, including one of the largest collections of traditional Breton costumes: around 20 'models' show the main styles, fabrics and dress-making techniques used here in the 19th and 20th centuries. As you visit, don’t miss the two 16th and 17th century carved mausoleum effigies. The Breton museum houses also the largest national collection of Breton pottery. More than 300 items that portray the development of the techniques used from the beginning of the 18th century to modern times.
