  • The Gallo area (eastern Brittany) has struck lucky: the restaurant of the talented Baptiste Denieul has big ideas but never loses sight of its friendly atmosphere or its sense of humour. In 2017, he was France’s youngest winner of a star and had recently opened the Bistrot Breton. He also offers cookery courses and is currently working on plans for a hotel to open in 2019.

    In Breton, ‘Tiegezh’ means ‘family’. For this gifted Breton, who has been a hot topic in recent months, it suggests homage and loyalty to his culinary roots. Best apprentice chef in Brittany at the age of 19, gaining his first star at 27, Baptiste Denieul has also won a distinguished place in the Gault et Millau and Champérard guides. He lives in Guer, with his wife and parents, and there he finds inspiration for dishes that are “at once very Breton and very original”. His gourmet menusoffer hot steamed oysters, served with calf’s tongue stock, potato tagliatelle and bacon, oven-roasted ray served with Brussels sprouts, an onion jus with Petrossian royal caviar and soufflé potatoes, and other delights. For those with slimmer wallets, there is the Bistrot Breton.
