Next door to Bon Repos Abbey (which means 'good rest'), rail enthusiasts are bringing a railway line back to life using period engines and a little tourist train.
The Friends of Bon-Repos Railway have set themselves the challenge of re-opening a Brittany branch line that has been closed for 50 years. The 4 km route links the abbey with Gouarec station. An eco-museum dedicated to local trains is also being planned. Until the line re-opens, carriages, wagons and locomotives under restoration are on display next to the former stop. You are free to wander around or have a guided tour. A small train consisting of a diesel engine and two tourist carriages is already in operation. A return journey through the undergrowth gets longer each week depending on the progress made by the railway enthusiasts who are engaged in this crazy human and technical challenge. -
