Voilier Tradtionnel Le Karreg Hir et La Fleur des Iles

Sail up the creeks aboard a traditional 'goémonier'
Sailing at Plouguerneau

  • The emblem of Plouguerneau's Ecomuseum, this working sailboat is "small on the outside but big on the inside". A 90 minute trip on board is both fascinating and fun!

THE Karreg Hir's rounded hull is immediately appealing. Its characteristic shape helps it to sail right up to the little islands dotted along the coast - a key feature for a boat used to collect seaweed! It also allows the boat's passengers the pleasure of sailing freely from rocky island to cove. With one eye on the passing landscape, everyone takes part in handling the sails or bringing up the pots, which often turn up crabs and lobsters. Under the cheerful guidance of Jean-Marie, the sailing manoeuvres run seamlessly, sometimes escorted by new generation 'goémoniers'.
