Mine d’Or beach – Pénestin

A long beach lined with orange-hued cliffs

Welcome to the charming seaside resort of Pénestin. With over a dozen fine sandy beaches on a 25-km coastline, the site has many assets, but above all, you’ll fall in love with the splendid Mine d’Or beach and its ochre-coloured cliffs. What are you waiting for?

Discover Mine d’Or beach – Pénestin

With a tall cliff in ochre shades overlooking the sea, the long 2-km beach will charm you. There is a reason for these golden colours. The cliff was exploited as a gold mine in the 19th century, hence it’s name: the Gold Mine! At the time, it raised the wildest hopes, but was closed in the First World War due to not yielding enough gold. Take a walk at the end of the day. At sunset, the orange-hued cliff shows off all its colours. It’s a beautiful sight.

Get your binoculars out!

Walk on Chemin des Douaniers which sets off from Mine d’Or beach. To the south, the pretty and quiet coves are very pleasant when Mine-d’Or beach is overrun with families. Then continue to Pointe du Bile. Out at sea, the rocky islands are home to many species of sea birds.

View from the sky

You could even discover Mine d’Or beach from the sky! The site has the only paragliding take-off point in the entire region. Thrills guaranteed!

Mmmm, mussels…

Do not leave Pénestin without tasting the delicious mussels for which the region is famous. As you stroll by the sea, you’ll probably notice the stakes, known as “bouchots”. At low tide, you’ll see that they are covered in mussels.
