The megaliths in Carnac and on the shores of Morbihan listed as UNESCO World Heritage

At last, Carnac and the shores of Morbihan have finally joined the World Heritage pantheon thanks to their famous megaliths – heavyweights of the Breton identity! Worldwide recognition for an outstanding ensemble, witnesses to human ingenuity dating back 7,000 years.

An unmatched concentration of megaliths

Majestic. Mysterious. Sometimes hidden, engulfed by the tides, these stone monuments are now inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. International recognition of a landscape shaped 7,000 years ago, bearing witness to early human ingenuity and a unique link between land and sea.

More than 550 megalithic sites scattered across the south of Morbihan have joined humanity’s most precious treasures.

This is the first Breton site to be classified as World Heritage, an inscription that validates years of collective engagement and opens a new chapter: that of a legendary heritage to preserve, transmit and discover with yet more respect and wonder.
