Back to the Middle Ages, just a stone's throw from the beaches of the Côte des Sables. Between Roscoff and Plouescat, the Château de Kerouzéré is the last remaining fortified castle in Finistère. Built in the 15th century and listed as a Historic Monument, it has belonged for 200 years to the Guénolé de Calan family... who will be delighted to open its doors to you. With a guide or on your own, you can take a spiral staircase up to almost half of the twenty or so rooms, including the main hall and bedrooms with 18th century furniture. The tour is a true testament to the way in which such a castle has been occupied through the ages. Its framework in the shape of an inverted ship's hull is remarkable. You can also take a walk along the parapet walk, with a view of the sea. After your visit, head for the 20-hectare park, home to a dovecote, wash-house, medieval fountain, children's wooden play area and a plant maze. Bonus? Regular events: exhibition, murder party, medieval festival... for an even more immersive experience.
