With wonderful ruins, beautiful moats and a drawbridge, Hunaudaye Castle will take you back in time.

Hunaudaye Castle is the perfect family day out for a medieval discovery trip. The site offers a choice of ways to find out all about the castle, from booklets to children's workshops and even night-time tours. Built around 1220 by Olivier Tournemine, this fortified castle protected the eastern border of Penthièvre (the Lamballe area) during conflicts with Le Poudouvre (the Dinard region). The castle was destroyed in 1341 during the Breton War of Succession and rebuilt in the 15th century with a few additional technical innovations (loopholes). Today you can follow a path through the castle and discover the ruins for yourself. Features which can still be seen are the drawbridge, the 5 towers with their defence systems, the inner courtyard and living areas such as the kitchens, cellars, communal oven and the state room.
