An essential prelude to discovering and understanding the region's archaeological sites, the Carnac Prehistory Museum offers family activities and workshops all year round, taking visitors on a journey through 450,000 years of history.
The Carnac Prehistory Museum boasts one of the richest prehistoric collections in Europe. Comprising 3,000 objects found during archaeological digs, maps, plans and models, it presents a chronological and thematic itinerary on two levels, from the Palaeolithic to the Gallo-Roman period. Daily life in the Neolithic period is particularly well developed: don't miss the large blades of Alpine jade axes and the polished ornaments imported from Spain. These prestigious objects bear witness to the time when Carnac was a major European centre of power and wealth at the beginning of the 5th millennium BC. Workshops, demonstrations of prehistoric techniques, family visits in a special area for young visitors - there are a whole host of ways to enjoy this fascinating educational site.
