In Bécherel, the Château de Caradeuc has one of the largest estates in Brittany. The grounds are carefully preserved in a poetic style with many features typical of the French garden. The perfect place for a bit of culture while taking the air!

Do you really know what 'French style' means? At Bécherel, between Rennes and Dinan, you'll get an introduction to the art of the classic garden in the grounds of Caradeuc, which extend over more than 40 hectares. Designed by Édouard André in 1899, the gardens combine French and landscape styles. Around the château there are straight avenues of local trees, flower beds, a bowling green, a 'salle de verdure' and even a ‘Green Carpet’ in the shape of a lyre. Making clever use of perspective, these typical elements – which feature statues, vases, tubs, columns and draperies – lead your eye towards the most beautiful viewpoints on the side of the Rance Valley or the Lamballe hills. During your tour, guided or self-guided, you will come across busts of Roman emperors, a remarkable statue of Louis XVI or a contemporary bust of the owner of the place: the State Prosecutor, Louis-René Caradeuc de La Chalotais. This is a living and carefully-preserved work of nature where it's a real pleasure to take your time and stroll around.
