If you're in the mood for a getaway... head to Yoko, in Rennes, for a tasty trip to Japan, in the wake of a remarkable chef.
Have you heard of IMA, Julien Lemarié's Michelin-starred restaurant? Then here's YOKO, its little sister and neighbour on the Boulevard de la Tour d'Auvergne. In this pretty, warmly-coloured bistro, the chef continues to cultivate his remarkable repertoire, which blends excellent local produce with Japanese ways. The star dish is donburi, bowls of rice filled with different ingredients, available in vegetarian versions for example, but also with tonkatsu - marinated pork loin -, karaage - fried chicken - or fish like this black mullet marinated in miso. The menu also includes miso soup, dishes such as fish tartare with nori seaweed, and okonomiyaki, cabbage cakes bound with flour, egg and dashi, which Julien garnishes with bonito and spring onion. It's all really good, precise, colourful, fragrant, and flattered by the artisan vintages on the generous and sophisticated wine list, not forgetting the beers and sake. The restaurant also offers a number of dishes - all the donburi - for takeaway or delivery.
