The Hotel Le Continental, ideally situated in a calm, town-centre street, has that certain British feeling of hotels of yesteryear. Seated at the sober bar, or in one of the comfortable club chairs, you have the feeling that you are sitting chatting to one of the notables who used to frequent the place. With its high ceilings, and furniture and flooring in dark red wood, it’s the perfect escape for couples or those seeking something a bit different. The rooms, be they art-deco or more classic, are spacious and light, and were renovated in 2004. Most have views out to sea or overlooking the Tour d’Auvergne square. From this haven of bygone days, you can choose to be simply idle, or go in search of the castle, or the delights of the nearby Saint-Louis market. Unless you prefer the liveliness of the Rue de Siam, made famous by Jacques Prévert and Christophe Miossec.
