Get some fresh air at Guerlédan Lake

A land of water, forest, heathland and pasture, Guerlédan has undulating landscapes that are great for getting active but equally good for just relaxing. It’s heaven if you’re looking for peace and quiet, but also ideal for watersports and getting back to nature. This is the perfect family location for getting some fresh air and recharging your batteries.

The largest lake in Brittany, but that’s not all…

Guerlédan is the largest inland lake in Brittany (400 hectares), nestling in the heart of a vast forest. Fishermen, walkers and watersports fans will love this stretch of water, as will anyone who wants to laze around on the beach. Take a walk through the nearby Le Daoulas Gorge with its imposing cliffs that were hollowed out by the river Blavet. Located on a ridge, the Liscuis heathlands have a wild and mysterious beauty and are dotted with megalithic burial mounds. Another must-see attraction is the Cistercian Abbey of Bon Repos. Dating from the 12th century it was abandoned for a long time, but today it houses contemporary art exhibitions. Not far away is Quénécan forest, a 3,000-hectare natural site with plants and wildlife that are typical of the undergrowth. Also worth seeing is the hamlet of Forges-des-Salles, one of the oldest metalworking sites in Brittany. The school, pay office, canteen and the carpenter’s shop are still standing: nothing has changed since production stopped in 1880.

Activities to unwind and recharge your batteries

In Guerlédan, the sign-posted footpaths criss-cross an unspoilt area of gentle, rural landscapes. It would take two good days’ walking to do a complete circuit of the lake. Looking for some excitement? Canoe down the Glomel water-slides! This is also heaven for mountain-bikers. There are 300 km of sign-posted trails at the mountain bike centre, ranging in difficulty from green to black. You can also cycle along the towpaths of the Nantes-Brest Canal or on a section of the Vélodyssée bike route. Experienced cyclists can go for the challenge of the 155 km Jean Robic circuit. There are also plenty of signposted horse-riding trails in the woods or beside the lakes.
