  • Brittany meets Japan at Cancale's Breizh Café. A lofty idea that shatters every rule when it comes to crêperies.

Whatever you thought you knew about crêperies - forget it! OK, now you can come into Breizh Café. Their delicately folded savoury buckwheat pancakes (galettes) are served on slates. And they also serve excellent Tsarskaya oysters on their bed of sea-salt. Outside you can see the Port de la Houle harbour, just in case you've forgotten you were in Brittany, Cancale in fact, the home port for this branch of Breizh Café, of which there are others in Paris and Tokyo too, thanks to founder Bertrand Larcher. And yes, there's definitely a Japanese feel to this place. Japanese serenity, Japanese quality. The best Breton ciders, both organic and traditional. And the same goes for the vegetables, garnishes and buckwheat flour. These days, Breizh Café has a sister restaurant upstairs -La Table Breizh Café, where you can sample Japanese gourmet cooking, plus l'Appartement Breizh Café if you want to stay a bit longer.
