In Lorient bay, several different eras merge into one. Behind the silhouette of a modern, light and airy city, looms the profile of a Town of Art & History, shaped by trade, fishing and the Second World War. The guided tours of the town of Lorient take you into the nooks and crannies of a past rich in facts, shapes and colours. Climb to the top of the Tour de la Découverte (tower of discovery) to enjoy the 360 degrees view of the bay and the town. Slip beneath the concrete of the submarine base to relive the epic saga of the submariners. Discover the civil defence shelter where the inhabitants of Lorient sheltered during the air raids. Take a tour of the shipyard, then head to the indoor fish market to meet the men who make their living from the sea. At the entrance to the bay, visit the Citadel of Port Louis and its museum of the East India Company. If you enjoy cycling, you can take a journey back through time as you ride along the banks, always in good company.
