Setting sail from Port-Rhu, one of Douarnenez’s harbours, the Skellig offers you the chance to experience traditional sailing. A trip out to sea on this former lobster boat will really add some flavour to your holiday.
At the Douarnenez Maritime Museum, the wooden hulls and colourful sails of the old sailing ships take centre stage. Among them, the Skellig was built on site by passionate volunteers. Since its launch, it has been turning heads with its 15-metre length and 150 m² of sail area. Better still, you can come aboard for a half-day’s traditional sailing trip. Around 10 passengers can share in the joy of being out on the water, guided by an experienced crew. Whether at the helm or hauling on the lines, these sailors for a day enjoy breathtaking views of Tristan Island, the Plomarc’h rocks and the Crozon peninsula. If the winds are favourable, the sturdy Skellig heads towards the Tas de Pois, sculpted by the ocean. On the way back, as one captain admits, “it’s all worth it when you see the passengers stepping off the boat with a smile on their faces.”
