In the harbour of Saint-Malo, Bertrand Larcher, founder of Breizh Café, has opened a bistro celebrating traditional Japanese cuisine.

Finding the city centre too cramped, Bertrand Larcher has moved his izakaya to the port of Saint-Malo, on Quai Duguay-Trouin. Otonali, which means ‘next door’, is the name of this restaurant adjoining the Breizh Café group’s hotel. The industrial vibe is spot on: exposed brick walls, polished concrete floors and subdued lighting. Behind the counter, chef Masahiro Sawasa – known as Masa – serves up dishes of rare finesse. Take, for example, his pork ravioli, which evolve according to his inspiration. For dessert, don’t miss the dark chocolate crème brûlée with candied yuzu peel and homemade yuzu whipped cream. An excellent selection of wines, sake and tea. An exceptional journey for the senses.
