The Abbey of Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer stands at the end of a peninsula and offers the hospitality of a character guesthouse designed for spiritual retreats.
The Abbey is the successor to a Benedictine monastery founded by Saint Jacut in the 5th century. It was restored, beginning in 1875, by the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Méen and is now a secular retreat, focusing on faith, prayer and discussion. The community house has 100 rooms – individual, double or family-sized. They are simple but high quality. Each has a table for writing or working. Meals are taken on a half-board or full-board basis during short stays that are organised around lectures and debates of a religious nature, encounters focused on theology or creative workshops. The Abbey of Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer is timeless but very much of our times too. It is a place of spiritual retreat, with its foundations in the gospels. But it is also an unusual kind of accommodation by the sea, where centuries of history and of wisdom resound within its walls.
