Fly to Brest for a short break in France. This port city stands on the banks of the beautiful bay of Brest and is home to one of Europe’s most impressive aquariums, Océanopolis. Brest is great too as a base for exploring the surrounding countryside.

Brest is best

Brest in western Brittany is great for a short break in France. Easy to get to and compact, you can devote all you time to the town itself for a city break or get out and explore a bit either for an activity holiday or simply just to recharge the batteries.

Seafood for all

Indulge yourself with delicious fresh seafood – but do it Breton-style. Formal fine dining is out and unpretentious enjoyment of the best local produce is in! Try Le Crabe Marteau for solid, rustic tables, covered not in fancy tablecloths but yesterday’s newspaper and tuck into freshly caught crab, local fish, lobster or scallops…

The biggest festival of them all!

If you’re in Brest in July, you cannot miss the international sailing festival, Les Tonnerres de Brest that takes place every 4 years. Hundreds of sailing vessels of all shapes and sizes drop anchor in Brest and the port is alive with activity, fun and laughter. Regattas, workshops, talks…any seadog worth his salt will be there!

Take a breath of fresh air

If you stay for a few days, head north to explore the fjord-like abers. Fill your lungs with iodised fresh air and enjoy bracing walks along the coastal path. Head further west and you will be overlooking Ouessant, metropolitan France’s most westerly point and one of the most dramatic of Brittany’s islands.

Get active

For an active short break, explore the Monts d’Arrée. Mountain biking trails criss cross unspoilt heathland while ramblers can scale Brittany’s highest summit and soak up the inspiring views it affords. The countryside changes from enchanted forests to rolling moors and back again for excellent walking.

Get your breath in Brest

A weekend break in Brest will leave you feeling invigorated and revived and is the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
