2. Portrait of a Lady on Fire

Historic drama by Céline Sciamma.

With Noémie Merlant, Adèle Haenel, Luàna Bajrami and Valérie Golino.

Set in 1770, on an island in Brittany, Héloïse refuses to pose for her wedding portrait. Her mother commissions Marianne, a young painter, to make her portrait by pretending she is a hired companion. The film was shot in Brittany on the Quiberon Peninsular and in Saint-Dégan. The film received eight prizes and 27 nominations.

3. In Safe Hand

Drama by Jeanne Herry.

With Sandrine Kiberlain, Gilles Lellouche and Elodie Bouchez.

Born an unwanted child, Theo is put up for adoption. The first days of waiting for a family, the unrelenting work of the social services and committed professionals, the journey of Alice, a potential adoptive mother… Theo’s future is played out in the two months following his birth. This wonderful and moving film was partly filmed in Brittany in Brest and Locmaria-Plouzané.

4. Sorry Angel

Dramatic comedy by Christophe Honoré.

With Vincent Lacoste, Pierre Deladonchamps and Denis Podalydès.

In the 1990s, Arthur, a 20-year-old student in Rennes, meets Jacques, a writer living in Paris with his son. But Jacques knows has an incurable illness and struggles to follow the advice of Mathieu, his neighbour and friend. They begin a relationship where time is running out. This serious and beautiful film was partly filmed in Rennes and Binic.

5. The Mystery of Henri Pick

Comedy by Rémi Bezançon, adapted from the novel by David Foenkinos.

With Fabrice Luchini, Camille Cottin, Alice Isaaz, Bastien Bouillon and Vincent Winterhalter.

Crozon, its turquoise coastline and its granite houses are the stars of this literary mystery. An editor discovers a masterpiece among a pile of manuscripts rejected by the biggest publishers in the local library. Once published, the book becomes a best-seller. Persuaded it’s a sham, an influential literary critic decides to investigate in Brittany.


6. A Very Long Engagment

Historical drama by Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

With Audrey Tautou, Gaspard Ulliel and Dominique Pinon.

During the First World War, five soldiers are accused of self-harming to avoid their duty. They are sentenced to death by court-martial. Manech is one of them. Yet, on the west coast of Brittany, his fiancée, Mathilde, refuses to believe he is dead. An epic quest for lost love, partly filmed between Finistère and the Pink Granite Coast.

7. 3 Days in Quiberon

Drama by Emily Atef.

With Marie Bäumer, Birgit Minichmayr and Robert Gwisdek.

Set off to Quiberon for a black & white intimate journey. 1981, Romy Schneider has checked into an exclusive health spa in the Breton seaside resort of Quiberon with the intention of quitting alcohol. Despite her fragile state and having previously been burned by the German press, she agreed to an interview and photo shoot with Stern magazine. It would prove to be incendiary, and her last before her death.
