Just as you get to the Gulf of Morbihan, you’ll find the rocky headland of the ‘Petit Mont’ (‘Little Mountain’), looking out across to the Isle of Houat. From the top you’ll have a view over almost all of Quiberon Bay and this is no doubt why an observation bunker was installed there during the Second World War. Around 5000 BC, the ‘Petit Mont’ dominated the waters of the ‘Mor Braz’ ocean to the south, just as it still does today. The immense dry stone structure that makes up the ‘Petit Mont’ Cairn (of which over 10,000m3 still exist), was not built in one go, but is the result of an ongoing process. This year, don’t miss the special events taking place at the ‘Petit Mont’ (6, 7, 29 and 30 July, and 5/6 August, 2010), where you can discover just what a Neolithic building site was like as attempts are made to move huge blocks across the land!
