At the heart of the historic town centre, the ‘Arthothèque’, or art library, organises and welcomes photographic exhibitions throughout the year and in particular during the summer months, when the exhibitions concentrate on internationally recognised artists. Both the individual and collective exhibitions focus on an artist, theme or movement and are an invaluable way of bringing contemporary art into the public eye - and private homes! The ‘Arthothèque’ is not just a gallery, but an art library that loans the 950 works in its collection to the general public: private individuals, businesses, schools or colleges can borrow photographic works and prints for a period of 2 to 6 months at a time. An excellent way, unique in the department, of bringing contemporary art to its public.
