in La Forêt-Fouesnant
-
Designed by the famous course architect Fred Hawtree and opened just over 50 years ago, Quimper-Cornouaille claims to be the oldest course on Brittany’s glorious south coast. Lying within the Fouesnant forest and alongside the Bay of Concarneau just about 10 miles south of Quimper, it measures 6200 yards and provides a thorough examination without being at all unfair.

With many of the holes enjoying delightful views over the water and the Glénan archipelago, it’s particularly hard to choose the best but it would probably come down to a three-way play-off between the 9th, 10th and 16th. Water is a threat on four of the holes but is also home to plenty of birdlife including herons, egrets, swans, ducks and geese whose presence certainly enhances the appeal of the course. An exceptionally friendly club with a splendid 18th century clubhouse,...
